Finally getting my cat spayed after saving up the money. It will be close to 300 dollars. She’s never been outside so it’s ok.
BUT
They doctor that will be operating will be using stitches and not glue. She’s a licker and jumper should I take the day off on friday (she gets operated on thursday) and watch her?
Im real nervous.
In case anyone’s curious about the price of the surgery
we’re doing the laser spay to cut back on bleeding and pain…she’ll get gas anesthesia, pain killers for when she goes home, elizabethan collar, she’ll be hooked up to a an EKG machine and have an IV Catheter in case she crashes.
She’s had pancreatitis in the past so Im a little nervous about her going in for surgery. I love my little girl so much….
But im not sure if i should take the day off..or just see how she’s doing and play it by ear.
She’ll come home thursday night, so Im gonna worry about her all day friday.
I don’t know if she can eat in her e-collar or not!
i know this sounds ridiculous
but i will cry when I leave her at the vet thursday. They will take great care of her, we almost lost her to pancreatitis and while we’re paying on an 1100 dollar vet bill, they saved her life. I’m so greatful….
but im just so worried I’ll never see her again.
The cost is outrageous but she’s worth it…most places don’t hook them up to EKG machines or give them an iv catheter, or pain killers, yes i’ve heard humane society does not provide pain killers.
I want my cat to be taken care of the best she can be.
i’d hate to have surgery and no pain killers.
people
I have explained why it costs so much for her spay
They provide her with PAIN KILLERS after the surgery
They hook her up to an EKG
They give her an iv catheter
I’m having the laser spay done (to cut back on bleeding and pain)
That also includes her bloodwork, her surgery consult.
MY CAT IS WORTH IT.
you are one Super cat owner i wish there were more people out there like you but here is the question can you really get any work done at work or will your mind be 1000 miles away? I think you know the answer to that. I think the best thing for you would be to call off and do not worry the vet will give you instructions on what and how to care for her you are that worried you can put her in a crate we did this for every cat we have ever had fixed (male/female) just in case it is normal to be nervous they almost become one of your children but yet they are not even half our size but they still manage to fill our lives and hearts with so much love and joy I know she will be just fine I think you are going through what any parent would go through if their child was having surgery
If you feel that you can not get off work then wait until she comes home and see how she is doing then take it from there. I hope this helps and good luck with your kitty let me know how she does.
Aren’t you the thoughtful kitty owner? How refreshing to see that someone cares for their cat as much as you do — that’s just very sweet.
I think if she’s going to have the collar, you’re probably going to be okay with the stitches versus the glue. If you can take off, then you probably ought to because you’ll be thinking about her all day while you are trying to get work done. Just remember that the vet knows what he/she is doing and your kitty’s going to be much, much happier in a very short while.

Play it by ear as she will just sleep all day when she gets home

I don’t think your kitty will do anything that will hurt. Most of the time the pet will lay around for a few days. However, why not ask your vet. I’d play it by ear.
I commend you for being a good pet owner. All owners should have there pets neutered/spayed.
I wish all pets had such a loving owner.

My kitten was just spayed a few weeks ago. She also had stitches but only 1 or 2. Somehow, she managed to get the stitch out 4 days after her surgery (she was not given a collar). I called the vet and was told that as long as the wound was sealed up and there was no oozing or puss, then she should be fine and she was. We just kept a very good eye on her and she never had any problems or acted like it bothered her at all. She healed up very fast.

Had many cats through the years and did not have any problems when I left them alone. She’ll probably do alot of sleeping anyway.

You could try getting an Elizabethan collar for your cat to wear when you can’t be at home. That will cut back on the licking, and might limit the jumping too.
Otherwise, play it by ear. Your little girl should be fine, especially if the vet is aware of her medical history.
Good luck!

Awwwww! We just had our kitten spayed last Thursday. The Human Society kept her overnight (I almost lost it) and we picked her up on Friday.
They used glue with her and she has not bothered the operation site. She was a little lethargic and is just getting back to being her playful self.
Wow! The cost that they are charging you is outrageous! Our total bill along with the rabies shot came up to $136.00. This included her overnight stay.
She will have to follow up in one year for the second rabies shot.

Whoa – why is it $300 to spay a cat? That’s way too much money – if you’re having shots and worming along with it, I would expect around $100.00 – perhaps you should shop around for prices.
Good luck and thank you for spaying!

I’ve had 3 cats spayed so far and never had any problems with any of them. They are usually too sore to do any jumping around and trying to get in the position to lick herself where the stitches are will be too painful the first days or two after the spaying. She may not eat much and only drink a little water.I don’t think you will have to miss work as she will be sleeping most of the time. After Friday try to get her moving around to work out the soreness from the surgery. They really recover pretty fast. They are usually back to normal in a couple days, you just have to watch they don’t over do. The first cat I had spayed, I brought it home and set the pen I had it in on my porch to take her out of it. She ran out of the pen and jumped off the porch which is 4 1/2 feet off the ground. I thought sure she would have torn out her stitches but she was fine. I learned not to open the pen until I got it in the house after that. But they sleep and lay around most of the first couple days after surgery. I’m sure things will be fine.
