URGENT: NEED PEOPLE QUALIFIED TO REPAIR PLAYSTATION3s IN CHICAGO AREA. Need information, please come inside!?

Hi, guys. It’s been too long. I don’t know if this is the right place to do this, but I’m too desperate to fret about it.

I had saved up lots of money and was going to get my PS3 repaired via the Sony Online service request, but due to a paranoid scamophobic outburst by my mother, I was forced to abandon the service request and now my serial number is no longer recognized as valid by the system. I have now exhausted my only known reliable option of fixing my PS3.

That, hopefully, is where you come in. I know there has to be someone who is qualified to work on PS3 consoles in or around Chicago. I’m pretty sure I have the infamous Blu-Ray laser problem, where defective lasers in systems would cut out after a 1-2 years. I got mine Christmas ’07, and it died about three months ago. 3 months without my PS3, saving up all that money for nothing…I might go insane soon.

So, please, I BEG you, if you know anyone in or near Chicago who is or may be qualified to repair PS3s (or if you ARE one), please provide the following information.

@ Who this person is (Name)

@ Where this person lives and/or works (If you only know the location he/she works at, or if you are a technician who prefers to do business only at your workplace, that’s fine.)

@ Any qualifications or certifications you know this person to have (Proof is preferred, of course, but if you aren’t close to the person this will be difficult.)

@ Estimated cost of the repair work (If you are the person, you will be able to provide this accurately, but if you’re not, make a reasonable guess.)

@ Any other conditions or terms that this person works on.

Due to the extent of my loss and obvious valuability of the system in a functional state, I would prefer not to pay until I am sure it is working again.

Here is a summary of the problem, approximating the description that I WOULD have sent Sony, if only I had been able:

Pretty sure this is the now-infamous laser problem. PS3 system will not read/recognize most discs. Appears to be loading, makes noise, then either will not play the discs or will not even recognize that there is a disc in the machine. Have not operated system in a long time, have been saving up money to pay for repairs. Out of warranty.

If you know anyone, please share information here, no matter what. What may not seem useful to you may be useful to me, so if you know anything, don’t be afraid to post it here.

Thanks in advance,

Willis
In light of Ron Burgundy’s response: Is this true? If so, is there any place around Chicago associated with Sony where I might get this problem resolved; perhaps an office or a licensed shop?

You can search the internet for new parts to buy and install yourself into PS3. Or why don’t you try going to Game stop/EB Games and see if they can’t fix it. I’d try re-calling Sony to fix the PS3. They will just send you a refurbished PS3 though.

Look for a Gamestop or similar store. They can fix some of the PS3 problems, like replacing the laser.

Why exactly can you not send it to Sony?
